Falco Gendi Kovach carry the Huskies into Round 2!

#13 Matawan got a HUGE lift from familiar faces as the Huskies defeated the #4 Allentown Redbirds in round one of the CJ GROUP 3 playoffs.

The Huskies got a fast start with 4 first inning runs on 2 rbi hits by sophomores Mark Kovach & Andrew Gendi to take an early 4-0 lead. That would be all sophomore winning pitcher Brandon Falco would need. Falco was masterful on the hill scattered 3 hits, only one leaving the infield while striking out 2.

With 2 on in the bottom of the seventh Gendi came to the rescue again with a one out hold: pitching to a bunting Allentown. Mark Kovach came in from the OF and with the tying runs on second and third, struck out both of his batters to nail down the big win for the Huskies.

Huskies win 6 of last 7

Matawan over Raritan 9-3. Brandon Falco pitched through the sweltering heat going 6 strong innings and striking out 5 walking none. Jake Brigandi led the offense with a single and a HR and 2 rbi. Chris Galasso made some very nice plays at ss with Sean Hart also getting into the defensive action helping to turn 2 double plays.
