Huskies win vs Neptune

Matawan defeated Neptune 4-0 on Thursday. It’s the Huskies 3 straight win. Mark Kovach started & earned his first win on varsity. Jake Brigandi pitched 2 solid innings in relief followed by Andrew Gendi who went 1-2-3 in the 7th vs the top of the Neptune lineup. Sean Hart delivered a 2 rbi double to start Husky scoring. Defensive were plays made all day by Eric Friedman who recorded 7 put outs and Brandon Falco was solid at short stop again.

The Jv Huskies also won again over Neptune by a score of 13-0.

Matawan 10 – LB 0

Sophomore Brandon Falco pitched a five-inning no-hitter on just 54 pitches and the Huskies rolled to a win over the Green Wave. Falco allowed two baserunners — both on hit batters. Falco struck out 9 of the 15 batters he faced.

Jack Sassa led the Husky attack with 2-2, BB, 3 runs and 2 rbi. Joey Bodin collected 2 hits and an rbi as did Jake Brigandi who doubled and knocked in 2 runs.

Matawan 3, Neptune 2

Senior Jake Brigandi led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run, sophomore Chris Galasso keyed the go-ahead rally in the fourth and sophomore Mark Kovach pitched three spotless innings to close the first varsity win for classmate Andrew Gendi — part of a win for the Huskies over the Scarlet Fliers that snaps a nine-game Matawan losing streak.

Galasso tied the game with an RBI double in the fourth and scored the winning run on a squeeze bunt by sophomore Brandon Falco to score his classmate from third.

Matawan 3 RBR 1

Matawan senior right-hander Jake Brigandi helped his cause with a pair of doubles — including one to chase home a run in the top of the fifth — and the Huskies turned in another strong collective pitching performance, this time to fend off the Bucs.

Sophomore Tommy Ruth staked Red Bank to a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the first, but Matawan came right back with a run in the top of the second on an RBI single by sophomore Sal Cassano.
Sophomore Mike DiPietro gave Matawan a 2-1 lead with an RBI double in the third and Brigandi gave himself some insurance with his RBI double two innings later.
Sophomore Mark Kovach came on and struck out five of the six batters he faced for two perfect innings and his second save of the season.
