Matawan Battles Back = “Bears”

Matawan found themselves down 4-0 in the first inning due to a few miscues but battled back to defeat Ocean Twp 9-5.  Shawn Johnson went 5 2/3 innings giving up 5 runs, 2 earned striking out 2 and walking 3.  Robert Marshall picked up a 4 out save, his fourth of the year.  Matawan had 3 runs in the 2nd and 4th in the comeback.  Johnson also went 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI while Dan Incle and Justin Harnett each collected 2 hits and 2 runs scored. 

Marshall also collected his first varsity hit.  Many Huskies contributed – Justin Henderson had a big hit in the 3 run second as did Corey Nusbaum and Matt Rackett had a big 2 strike hit in the bottom of the 6th where the Huskies added on 2 IMPORTANT RUNS.

Matawan fought back from an early 5-1 deficit to top Red Bank 7-5. Shawn Johnson was strong in relief shutting down the Bucs in innings 4-6. Robbie Marshall earned his 3 save of the year. Matawan scored 5 runs in the top of the 5th lead by Matt Rackett’s one out 2 RBI single. Anthony Principe went 3 for 3 and Justin Harnett had 2 hits and one run scored. The Huskies are now 4-1 and 4-0 in conference

HUSKIES WIN ! Now 3-1 and 3-0 in division

After a tough loss, 2-1, to Marlboro on Saturday, the Huskies bounced back in good form defeating Neptune 6-5.  Nick Santuccio got his first start of the year and performed well after a tough first inning, going 4 strong innings and giving up 3 runs.  Justin Harnett pitched the next 2 to hold Neptune close while the Huskies chipped away.  Joe Piscopo had a one out single in the 6th followed by a walk to Justin Henderson, a fielders choice by Pat DePaolo and Dan Incle being hit by a pitch.  With 2 out and the bases loaded, Justin Harnett came through with a single that plated 2 runs and Incle scored as the throw got by the catcher.  Robbie Marshall sealed the deal with his 2nd save of the season.

The Huskies start off on a high note defeating Long Branch 7-0. Justin Harnett pitched 5 effective innings for his first win of the year striking out 6. Dan Incle had 2 hits including a lead off triple and Pat Depaolo went three for three in his first varsity action. Anthony Principe had 2 RBI. Robbie Marshall closed the door pitching the 6th and 7th. Great job!!!!’
