Freshman Timmy Egan, in his first varsity start threw 4 effective innings earning his first varsity win on just 73 pitches. Egan kept Point Boro off balance all day working ahead of hitters and working out of a jam or 2 and was able to induce a key double play to keep Matawan in the game.
Derek Jordan scored the go ahead run on a Danny Hirujo hit and Jay Kalieta scored on a good base running play to make it 4-2.
Danny Hirujo worked 3 innings for his second save of the year only allowing one run and working out of 2nd and 3rd with no one out, only a allowing one run.
The game ended on a thrilling play when Griffin Falco threw out the game tying runner who attempted to steal second base.
The JV team also won by a score of 9-8. Christian Rivera did it in the field with a key diving catch and on the mound throwing 4 innings. Nick Trapani has 3 hits to lead the offense. The Huskies are now 12-5.
Matawan gets back in the win column with a 10-4 win over Carteret. Chris Gendi threw 6 effective innings striking out 5. He also had 2 hits including a double and 2 rbi. Derek Jordan continued his torrid pace with 3 more hits and Griffin Falco added 2 hits and an rbi.
Senior day is Tuesday vs Raritan with the ceremony to follow the game.
The Huskies lost this one 9-2. A few miscues in the field and good Sjv pitching hurt Matawan’s chances today. Jay Kalieta had 2 hits including a double and 2 rbi.
The JV team won 14-4. Carlos Zeno pitched a complete game with freshman Mike Caldon tallying 3 hits and 4 RBI, Jimmy Nichols collecting 3 hits, Ryan Anderson a HR and Vinny Guarino had 2 hits including a double.
Frosh lost 18-10.
